Note: Photograph of Humphrey Bogart during the shooting of High Sierra (The Great Escape), a film directed by Raoul Walsh and released in 1941. Considered one of the great classics of American film noir, this feature marked a decisive turning point in the career of Humphrey Bogart, who established his image as a tragic, disillusioned gangster. Adapted from a novel by W.R. Burnett, with a screenplay co-written by John Huston, High Sierra heralded the great noir roles that would make the actor a legend in the 1940s. This later print from the 1960s bears witness to the enduring Bogart myth and the cult status the film has acquired among cinephiles and film historians.
