Note: This set of five photographs taken in 1948 by Studio Lipnitzky documents the play *Prosper*, a work by Lucienne Favre adapted for the stage by Gaston Baty and presented at the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Paris. A leading figure in the French theatrical revival of the interwar and postwar periods, Gaston Baty was one of the great directors of his time, committed to the visual and poetic dimensions of theater. The cast notably featured young actors who went on to have brilliant careers, including Michel Piccoli and Maurice Garrel. The costumes were designed by Olga Choumansky, an artist renowned for her work in the performing arts. Produced by Studio Lipnitzky—whose photographs now constitute an essential source for the history of French theater—these images offer a valuable record of postwar Parisian theater and the emergence of several major figures in the performing arts.
