YVES MONTAND - Photo by Walter CARONE (1920–1982) Set of six photographs of French cinema and celebrities, 1967–1981. Includes: - Yves Montand and Henri Verneuil on the set of *I… comme Icare*, 1978; - Romy Schneider and Yves Montand on the set of *Clair de femme*, Paris, December 1978; - Georges and Claude Pompidou at a picnic, circa 1970; - Romy Schneider and Harvey Keitel on the set of *La Mort en direct* (*Death Watch*), Paris, October 1978; - Annie Girardot and Yves Montand on the set of *Vivre pour vivre*, 1967; - Yves Montand and Gérard Depardieu on the set of *Le Choix des armes*, January 1981. Six vintage silver gelatin press prints. Typewritten or mimeographed captions, stamps, handwritten annotations, and credits reading “Walter Carone / Sygma” or “Paris Match / Marie Claire” on the reverse, depending on the print. Approximately 20 × 30 cm each. Note: This set of six photographs captures several defining moments in the career of Yves Montand, as well as some of the leading figures in French cinema and public life between 1967 and 1981. The photographs featuring Montand illustrate his collaborations with Henri Verneuil (*I… comme Icare*), Costa-Gavras (*Clair de femme*), Claude Lelouch (*Vivre pour vivre*), and Alain Corneau (*Le Choix des armes*), in which he appears alongside Romy Schneider, Annie Girardot, and Gérard Depardieu, among others. Another photograph shows Romy Schneider with Harvey Keitel on the set of Bertrand Tavernier’s *La Mort en direct*, while a rare, more intimate shot captures Georges and Claude Pompidou during a picnic, with the president photographing his wife away from official ceremonies. Taken or distributed by Walter Carone for the Sygma agency, these vintage press prints offer a remarkable testament to the golden age of French photojournalism. The original captions, agency stamps, and editorial annotations preserved on the reverse side enhance their historical and documentary value.
