Grand Bas Armagnac
1 bouteille GRAND BAS ARMAGNAC 1893 Domaine de Jouanda (niveau mi épaule, étiquette abimée, marquée, sans capsule)

Armagnac is the oldest brandy in France!
The first evidence of its use dates back to the year 1310, and from 1411, the first traces of its commercialization appear. Until the 16th century, Armagnac was more a question of alchemy than of the simple production of brandy. It was then not consumed as is but was sold for its medicinal and therapeutic virtues.
At the beginning of the 17th century, the Gascony wine industry was boosted by purchases from Dutch merchants. In order to make transport costs profitable, the wines were distilled, thus greatly reducing the volume. Brandy went from being a rare medical product to a common consumer product.
However, it was not until 1909 and its Decree of May 25th that the production area for Armagnac brandies and its three regions (Bas-Armagnac, Ténarèze, Haut-Armagnac) was delimited. The Decree of August 6, 1936 will define the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Armagnac and its conditions of elaboration.
The domain of Jouanda located in the commune of Arthez d'Armagnac in the heart of Gascony has been the property of the Barons de Poyferré since 1880, today represented by Laurence de Poyferré. The eaux-de-vies produced by the estate are characterized by an ageing in barrels for a minimum of 15 years and the exclusive production of vintage bas armagnac.
