Claude LALANNE - Lot 71
Claude LALANNE Copper brooch with brown patina stylizing an anemone. Unsigned. Diam: 6 cm Claude Lalanne transforms natural elements such as leaves, flowers or fruits into metal. It operates by electroplating in order to imitate them... Electroplating is a process by which a metal deposit is applied to the surface of an object by means of a direct electric current, the metal being initially in the form of cations in solution in a solvent (usually water). This technique is used either to preserve the object from oxidation, to embellish it or to take its imprint. It follows the principle of electrolysis for its implementation. There are many applications and they are found in the plating of jewellery. Historians believe that this process was used by the Egyptians more than 3,000 years ago to decorate art objects with red copper. The Romans also used it according to the writings of Pliny the Elder
