HANHART, "Flieger", reference 417, aka "Steve Mc Queen", n°1 - Lot 81
HANHART, "Flieger", reference 417, aka "Steve Mc Queen", n°115778, circa 1950. - A rare and handsome military-style chronograph in nickel-plated brass with 2 counters, stainless steel caseback, permanent second hand and 30-minute totalizer, black dial, luminous Arabic numeral hands and hour markers, manual winding. One pusher missing. - Manufactured in the 1950s, less than 1,000 examples of this reference were produced. This contemporary-diameter chronograph is powered by the flyback caliber 41, replacing the single-pusher Hanhart caliber 40. Supplied to Luftwaffe pilots during and after the Second World War, Hanhart black-dial chronographs also served as inspiration for the French Air Ministry, which in the mid-1950s decided to equip French military aviators with similar models, placing the famous order that gave rise to the "Type 20" family of chronographs, notably produced by Breguet, Auricoste, Airin, Dodane and others. - A similar model with two pushers was also worn by the "King of Cool" Steve McQueen before and after the filming of "The War Lover". - Diameter: approx. 39 mm
