Victor-Joseph SEGOFFIN (1867-1925)- Reverie, circa 1920 - Lot 52
Victor-Joseph SEGOFFIN (1867-1925)- Reverie, circa 1920 Female nude seated on a terrace Bronze with richly shaded dark brown patina Early proof signed "V-J. Segoffin", dated 1913 59 x 55 x 52 cm Provenance: Gaston Bouteiller, executor and friend of the artist, then by inheritance Note: Originally from Toulouse, Segoffin won the Prix de Rome in 1897. On his return to Paris in 1902, he received numerous public and private commissions, including "La Danse sacrée" and "La Danse profane", in 1904, for the Palais de l'Elysée. A neo-baroque expressionist, but also a symbolist at the start of his career, Segoffin was influenced by Rodin for a time. He excelled in the representation of the female body, moving away from the academicism that still dominated sculpture. His bronzes are rare because, unlike most sculptors of his time, he does not appear to have published large numbers of his models.
