NASTY, a key figure in French street art
Fascinated by the hip hop movement and fascinated by New York street artists, Nasty directs his work on simple letters and tart colors, getting noticed by painting colorful frescoes on trains in Paris. He works mainly on the typography of his name, playing on the associations of colors, shapes and effects. He uses the Italian spray can brand Clash and likes the variations of the color pink.
At the beginning of the 90's, he joins the AEC collective (Artiste en Cavale). Together, they develop a strategy and decide to focus their actions where their work will be most visible.
It is his works on the subway plates that mark Nasty's transition from the street to work in galleries where he stages these famous enamel plates of the RATP, but also the maps of the subway and the ceramic bricks. These are "pieces" of Paris that are then exhibited, like witnesses of an era.
