Zao Wou Ki
He is a Chinese painter and engraver naturalized French in 1964. In the 50s, he is attached to the new School of Paris and then to lyrical abstraction, the work "Crossing Appearances" marks this transition. He was inspired by French artists through the postcards his uncle brought him.
In 1983, he was invited to return to China, which he had left thirty-five years earlier, for exhibitions in Beijing and Hangzhou. He returned there to teach for a month in 1985 and introduced his students to Western art, which had previously been banned.
