Robert Couturier

Until the end of his life, Couturier contributed to the development and diffusion of post-war French sculpture, notably by founding the Salon de Mai, one of the most important post-war exhibitions, and by representing France at numerous international biennials, such as the Venice Biennale in 1950 and the Sao Paulo Biennale the following year.
He also never stopped working on new forms and created a new scandal in 2005 during the retrospective devoted to the artist at the Maillol Museum, on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Couturier presented sculptures made of recycled materials, which astonished the public.
