Gaston Chaissac had a solitary childhood. His schooling was short and difficult. Although suffering from tuberculosis, Gaston Chaissac continued to paint and draw and his friends Otto Freundlich and Albert Gleizes organized his first private exhibition at the Gerbo Gallery in 1938. Very close to the artist Albert Gleizes, he met through him artists and intellectuals of great renown such as André Lhote or Aimé Maeght. His career will take a major turn in the 60s during which he will finally know an international consecration.
