An exceptional Johnnie Walker bottle at auction

John Walker, known as Johnnie Walker, began his career at the age of 14 when his father died in 1819. The family farm sold, the young orphan acquired a small grocery store in the heart of Scotland. At the time, most grocers stocked up on quality single malts, some of which were the best and some the worst. In an effort to present his customers with whiskies of consistent quality, Johnnie Walker began blending.
When John died in 1857, his son Alexander took over his flourishing business. In 1867, he launched the first blend called "Old Highland Whisky".

Distributed by sea, Alexander imagined the iconic square bottle. Stronger than the previous ones, it reduces the breakage and the cost of transport. He also added the famous 20-degree slanted label to make it easier to read the Johnnie Walker name and distinguish it from the competition.

In 1909, while having lunch with Alexander, designer Tom Browne sketched out a profile on a corner of the table, to be used on the brand's labels. The illustration of "The Man Who Walks with Great Strides" transforms the small grocer into a dandy of the time.

Iconic, the different editions of Walker whiskies are distributed in 120 countries since the 20's and even become in 1934, the official supplier of the English crown under the reign of King George V.

The Celebrate Blue edition was made on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johnnie Walker and was produced in 200 copies. Bottled in 2005, this blend scotch whisky is made from casks over 45 years old. We are pleased to present one of these 200 bottles at our next auction May the 5th..

Today, Johnnie Walker is the best-selling whiskey brand in the world.
