Bernard Buffet, born July 10, 1928, in Paris and deceased on October 4, 1999, in Tourtour, was a young prodigy of expressionist art. After studying drawing and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he was quickly recognized by collectors. Buffet produced around 8,000 paintings throughout his career, distinguished by a style between traditional academicism and contemporary art trends. He was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1974 and became a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 1971.
Buffet produced about a hundred drawings per year until 1999. His production is substantial, with approximately 8,000 paintings. His style, a compromise between 19th-century realism and contemporary trends, was well-received and appreciated, particularly in Japan.
