Claude LALANNE - Lot 59
Claude LALANNE Copper brooch with brown patina stylizing an anemone. Unsigned. Diam: 6 cm.Claude Lalanne transforms natural elements such as leaves, flowers or fruits into metal. She works by electroplating in order to imitate them...Electroplating is a process that uses direct electric current to apply a metallic deposit to the surface of an object, the metal being initially in the form of cations in solution in a solvent (usually water). This technique is used either to preserve the object from oxidation, to embellish it, or to take an impression of it. It follows the principle of electrolysis for its implementation. The applications are numerous and can be found in the plating of jewellery. Historians believe that this process was used by the Egyptians more than 3,000 years ago to decorate art objects with red copper. The Romans also used it according to the writings of Pliny the Elder.
