José NICOLAS (1956) - Lot 161

José NICOLAS (1956) Corsica, Sainte Lucie 2006 Silver print On back, stamped, signed, titled, dated and numbered 4/8 Dimensions including margins: 40 x 30 cm Note: In this photograph taken in Sainte-Lucie, Corsica, in 2006, José Nicolas captures with an almost choreographic intensity the gesture of a young diver suspended above the water. The body, frozen in mid-air, seems to float between the bright light reflected by the river and the dense shadow of the vegetation. This silver print testifies to the photographer's precise, sensitive eye, which excels in capturing the decisive moment while lending an almost timeless dimension to his scenes of life. Here, the wilderness, freedom of movement and carefree gestures create a vivid, powerful image, where the energy of the place meets that of the diver.
