José Nicolas (1956) - Lot 178
José Nicolas (1956) Departure of the Palestinians, West Beirut, Lebanese War 1982 Print On back, signed, dated, numbered 5/8 50 x 40 cm Note: This photograph, taken at the heart of the Lebanese War in 1982, bears witness to one of the most striking episodes of the conflict: the departure of Palestinian fighters from West Beirut. By focusing on the presence of children brandishing weapons in the midst of the ruins, José Nicolas reveals the brutality of a daily life where war intrudes even into childhood. His view, both direct and profoundly human, captures the tension of a battered city, while underlining the tragic absurdity of war.
