Jacques VIOLET (1936-2021) - Lot 190

Jacques VIOLET (1936-2021) Madrasa Mosque, view of the Mosque, 1968 Silver print by the author, vintage edition On the back, titled, stamped Jacques Violet Countersigned Bérangère Violet Dimensions: 24 x 29 cm Note: Jacques Violet, a French photographer whose work often focuses on architecture, travel and urban observation, captures here a panoramic view of Cairo's rooftops in 1968. The monumental minaret in the foreground structures the composition and places the image in the tradition of documentary shots of the metropolises of the Arab world at the time. The plunging perspective reveals the dense, labyrinthine expanse of the city, while the dry, homogeneous light of Cairo exalts the architectural volumes. Vintage print, made by the artist himself, and authenticated by the family stamp and countersignature.
