Jacques VIOLET (1936-2021) - Lot 194
Jacques VIOLET (1936-2021) Entrance to the Museum of Pharaonic Antiquities, Egypt, Cairo, 1968 Silver print by the author, vintage edition On back, titled, stamped Jacques Violet Countersigned Bérangère Violet Dimensions: 24 x 29 cm Note : A photographer who pays as much attention to scenes of life as to emblematic monuments, Jacques Violet captures here, in 1968, the human effervescence at the entrance to the Museum of Antiquities in Cairo, a major site of Egyptian heritage. His documentary eye highlights the contrasts between the museum's neoclassical architecture, the sculptural presence of the obelisk and the spontaneity of the human figures in the foreground. The artist's period prints, made by himself, are today precious testimonies to his travels and his sensitive approach to the Mediterranean and Eastern worlds.
