Jean COCTEAU (1889-1963) (after) - Lot 311
Jean COCTEAU (1889-1963) (after) We Believe in Europe, 1961 Color lithograph Signed and dated in the plate 33 x 46 cm Note: This color lithograph by Jean Cocteau takes up one of the artist's favorite mythological themes: the abduction of Europe. Through the deliberate simplicity of the line, the lightness of the forms and the addition of a few colored touches, Cocteau offers a modern, symbolic interpretation of the myth, here associated with a humanist message - "we believe in Europe". Signed and dated on the plate, this edition testifies to the wide distribution of Cocteau's graphic work, whose visual poetry and evocative power remain intact.
