French school - Lot 13

French school Sheltered from the sun Oil on canvas Restoration Size : 46 x 38 cm Note: This scene entitled À l'abri du soleil (Sheltered from the sun) depicts two women in light-colored dresses, seated in a garden bathed in light. The artist, a member of the French school, favors a rapid, vibrant brushstroke, close to an Impressionist aesthetic, where color takes precedence over descriptive detail. The foliage, treated in broad green and bluish impasto, envelops the two figures in an intimate, summery atmosphere. The composition, centered on the play of light filtering through the trees, emphasizes the gentleness of the moment. The work, executed in oil on canvas and restored, reflects a decorative and poetic sensibility peculiar to French painting of the late XIXᵉ or early XXᵉ century.
