French school, late 18th century - Lot 7
French school, late 18th century The beginning of the ceremony Aquatint on dark paper, unsigned 28.5 x 55 cm (view) Note: Aquatint on dark paper, unsigned, depicting a lively ceremonial scene, treated with a subtle play of values and contrasts, characteristic of late XVIIIᵉ century printmaking techniques. Aquatint, a process then in full development, here renders a nuanced atmosphere and evocative depth of field, often sought after for genre and society scenes of this period.
