Santi VISALLI (born 1932) - Lot 71
Santi VISALLI (born 1932)
Andy Warhol drawing on Leigh Taylor-Young's thigh at the Factory in 1968
Vintage silver print
Dimensions: 25 x 20 cm
Note: This photograph, taken in 1968 by Santi Visalli, documents an emblematic scene at the Factory, the central location of Warholian creation and mythology. It shows Andy Warhol drawing directly on the thigh of Leigh Taylor-Young, a cinema figure and close friend of the artist's entourage.
In the late 1960s, the Factory was a workshop, a social scene and an artistic laboratory, where artists, muses, actors and musicians came together. With its direct framing and spontaneity, this print captures the atmosphere of freedom, provocation and experimentation characteristic of this environment.
Santi Visalli, a renowned press and portrait photographer, is one of the privileged witnesses of this period. Today, his images of Warhol and his circle are sought-after historical documents, on the borderline between documentary photography and artist portraiture.
