The face appears as both presence and reflection, almost spectral, inscribed in a dark space that absorbs part of the figure. Soares does not seek psychological resemblance, but a form of inner tension: the expression is calm, but the device creates a distance, a strangeness. The photograph becomes less a portrait in the classical sense than a meditation on visibility, on what is visible and what remains in the background.
