Robert DOISNEAU (1912-1994) - Lot 217
Robert DOISNEAU (1912-1994) The Superior Animals, 1954 Silver print Signed lower right On the back, countersigned, titled and dated Sheet size : 30 x 40 cm Image size: 23 x 34 cm Note : With Les animaux supérieurs, Robert Doisneau displays his full sense of irony and social observation. The contrast between the monkey's almost human attitude and the audience's amused curiosity creates a scene that is both funny and subtly critical. True to his humanist outlook, Doisneau captures here a moment of absurdity and tenderness, transforming an ordinary scene into an emblematic image of his poetic humor.
