Ian PATERSON (1953) - Lot 223

Ian PATERSON (1953) Luxembourg Gardens, Paris, 1984 Silver photograph Author's name on back Dimensions including margins : 18 x 24 Image size : 13 x 18 cm Note : In this mist-shrouded photograph, Ian Paterson transforms the Jardin du Luxembourg into an almost unreal landscape. The statue, isolated on its pedestal, silhouettes itself darkly against a milky sky, like a timeless presence suspended between appearance and erasure. The blurring, soft contrasts and granulation of the silver give the scene a dreamlike, almost ghostly quality. Here, Paris is no longer a recognizable city, but a silent, introspective mental space. The distance, absence of human figures and diffuse atmosphere invite contemplation, a form of poetic solitude where time seems to slow down, even dissolve.
