José NICOLAS (1956) - Lot 279

José NICOLAS (1956) Demonstration against the nuclear power plant, Golfech, Lot et Garonne, 1979 Silver print On back, signed, dated, located Dimensions with margins: 30 x 40 cm Note: In this photograph of the demonstration against the Golfech nuclear power plant in 1979, José Nicolas captures a moment of collective tension in which political commitment becomes a lived, almost physical experience. The composition, dominated by smoke, marching silhouettes and depth of field, conveys the uncertainty of an era and the strength of a movement driven by anonymous but determined individuals. True to his humanist, documentary approach, Nicolas does not seek the spectacular, but the human at the heart of the event. His work bears witness to a fragile social memory, made up of struggles, bodies in motion and gazes turned towards a still undecided future.
