Harter (20th) - Lot 42
Harter (20th) Face Oil on cardboard 40 x 30 cm Note: This stylized face, treated in sharp, contrasting flat tints, is part of a modernist aesthetic inherited from late cubism and a certain graphic expressionism. The face, split into two colors - green and blue - creates an expressive tension reinforced by the asymmetrical gaze and the strong black contours. The bright red of the headband and lips adds a dynamic accent to this deliberately spare composition. Produced on cardboard, this work plays on the simplification of forms and the strength of color to convey an introspective, symbolic portrait.
