Note: An essential figure of European narrative figuration, Valerio Adami has been developing an immediately identifiable plastic language since the 1960s, based on black line, fragmentation of space and the use of bold colors. His work lies at the crossroads of pictorial modernity, intellectual reflection and contemporary culture.
With Naked (2004), Adami proposes a stylized representation of the female body, treated in a composition that is both fluid and architectural. The nude, elongated and fragmented by contrasting flat tones of color, is structured by a thickly contoured drawing, the image's conceptual backbone. In Adami's work, line doesn't just describe form: it thinks space and organizes reading.
The palette - dominated by acid greens, deep reds and muted pinks - lends the scene a visual tension characteristic of the artist's graphic production of the early 2000s. The body becomes a sign, almost a mental territory, detached from any immediate narrative, but charged with a strong symbolic presence.
