Note: Since the 1970s, Pat Andrea, a major artist of the Nouvelle Figuration movement, has been developing a deeply singular body of work, marked by a constant tension between figuration, expression of the body and the psychological dimension. His universe, often disturbing and poetic at the same time, explores the troubled zones of identity, desire and metamorphosis.
In Naked (2005), Pat Andrea's depiction of the female nude is both frontal and fragmented, with a nervous, spontaneous drawing style. The figure, seen in profile, is constructed by a tangle of black, almost calligraphic lines, giving the body a vibrant, unstable presence. Red highlights, applied in a deliberately dissociated manner, accentuate the emotional charge and introduce an ambiguous reading, oscillating between sensuality, vulnerability and inner tension.
The silkscreen on 250 g Arches vellum highlights the artist's graphic freedom and taste for expressive figuration, where the line becomes a vector of affect as much as of form. The body is not idealized: it is traversed by lines, ruptures and splits, reflecting a profoundly contemporary vision of the nude.
