Alain SÉCHAS (1955) - Lot 16
Alain SÉCHAS (1955) Love, 2003 Serigraph, numbered and signed. Paper : Velin d'Arches 250 g Format : 270 x 380 mm Justified 22/120 Note : A major artist on the French contemporary scene, Alain Séchas has been developing an immediately identifiable universe since the 1990s, populated by anthropomorphic feline figures that are at once naïve, ironic and deeply critical. His work hijacks the codes of drawing, sculpture and installation to question human behavior, affect and power relations, with a deliberate economy of means. With Love (2003), Séchas approaches the theme of the nude and desire through humor and distancing. The figure, with its deliberately simplified morphology, oscillates between animality and humanity. The body is both offered and awkward, almost disarming, while the face, reduced to a few expressive features, introduces a dimension that is both comic and disturbing. The title, Love, accentuates this discrepancy between the idea of love and the deliberately anti-academic representation of the body. The silkscreen is based on an incisive black line drawing, enhanced by flat areas of flesh color applied with apparent spontaneity. This graphic simplicity, the artist's signature, masks a deeper reflection on vulnerability, desire and the absurdity of social postures. The nude is not idealized: it becomes a vehicle for projecting human weaknesses and contradictions.
