Pierre-Auguste RENOIR (1841-1919) - After Portrait of Berthe Morisot Drypoint Signed in the plate 19 x 16.5 cm (view) Note: Rare drypoint depicting Berthe Morisot, seen in profile facing right. The face is treated with the delicate lines characteristic of Renoir's etchings: soft lines, slight repeats of the hair and neck, without any strong contrasts. The deliberately pared-down composition is in keeping with Renoir's intimist research in contact with his Impressionist circle. Renoir and Berthe Morisot maintained close ties within the Impressionist group; Morisot posed for his contemporaries on several occasions. Renoir's etchings are few in number, giving each print an intrinsic rarity on the market.
