Georges GROSZ (1893-1959) - Lot 65
Georges GROSZ (1893-1959) Poster for Galerie Negru, Paris, May-June 1979 Lithographic poster in black on paper Printed text: "Grosz - Mai/Juin 1979 - Galerie Negru, 40 rue Mazarine, Paris". 68 x 47.5 cm Note: Illustrated poster depicting a satirical scene of a bourgeois couple walking a dog, treated in the incisive caricature style typical of George Grosz. The drawing, with its dry, expressive line, ironically denounces social rigidity, a central theme in the artist's work since the Berlin years. This poster was published for a posthumous exhibition at the Galerie Negru in Paris in 1979. The image faithfully reflects Grosz's biting, critical spirit, but is a publishing production intended for cultural dissemination, rather than an original work.
