Note: Born in 1974 in Montpellier, Jeanne Susplugas lives and works in Paris. "Committed but not militant, Jeanne Susplugas' work attacks all forms and strategies of confinement, both to question the individual's relationship with himself and with others." (Philippe Piguet in Semaine 13.13) The media she explores are as many vectors instructing the terms of a singular aesthetic determined by an obsessive being-in-the-world, by turns troubled and reassured, worried and serene, solitary and complicit. His work has been widely exhibited at venues including the KW in Berlin, the Villa Medicis in Rome, the Palazzo delle Papesse in Siena, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Fresnoy in Tourcoing, the Musée d'Art Moderne in St Etienne and the Musée de Grenoble, as well as at events such as Dublin-Cotnemporary, the Alexandria and Shanghai Biennales and Nuit Blanche in Paris. Her films have been shown at festivals such as Hors Pistes (Centre Pompidou, Paris), Locarno International Festival, Miami International Festival, Les Instants Vidéos in Marseille and Les Rencontres Internationales Paris / Berlin / Madrid. At first glance, Jeanne Susplugas' work is seductive in its beauty, simplicity, structure, intelligibility and color. At second glance, however, it reveals itself to be disquieting. Through her videos, writings in threads of light, drawings, photographs and cardboard constructions, she reveals the anxious, obsessive world of the human being, a profound hypochondriac in perpetual search of performance. Since 2007, Jeanne Susplugas has been working on a series of drawings entitled Containers, inspired by American pharmaceutical bottles. In the drawings, the names of the drugs are replaced by words that make up sentences taken from a collection of the artist's readings over the last fifteen years. A literary database, a constant source of inspiration, crystallizing our mental environment, which is partly presented in the book. The first edition is accompanied by a signed original work of art, enhanced with watercolor or felt-tip pen.
