Gilles Barbier - Lot 94
Gilles Barbier Vu d'en bas 48 pages, paperback, dust jacket Numbered 164 from an edition of 282 + current edition "L'art en écrit", 2013. Editions Janninck Format: 125 x 210 mm Attached is a unique work, resin and feathers on cardboard, signed and dated. Note: Born in 1965 in Vanuatu (South Pacific), Gilles Barbier lives and works in Marseille. His work revolves around the principles of doubt, ambivalence and the multiplicity of meanings. Exploring the paths of reason and the overlapping of ideas, his sculptural and pictorial work favors fragment and multiplicity over sum. It proceeds by deconstruction / reconstruction, developing through different narrative strategies to form an implausible cosmogony that is nonetheless rooted in reality, drawing on disciplines as diverse as aesthetics, history, psychoanalysis, the visual arts, philosophy, science, comics and economics. Each of Barbier's exhibitions is a plunge into fictions that, for him, help to make sense of reality. Characters, comic bubbles and "reality-correcting" messages serve as indicators for this in-depth reading. vu d'en bas is a collection of nine previously unpublished texts by Gilles Barbier, testifying to the importance of writing, accompanied by a unique work of art, resin and feathers on cardboard.
