Note: On leaving his exhibition in 1988, Hervé Di Rosa (a representative of Figuration Libre born in 1959 in Sète) met a child who spelled the name of the Musée d'Art Moderne as "Musée d'Art Modeste". Delighted by this confusion, he suddenly becomes aware of his taste for ordinary things: gadgets, figurines, kites, billboards... So many objects whose presence he wishes to legitimize within art, from the street to museums: an art that rejects nothing and is within everyone's reach.
In L'art modeste, he offers a pictorial definition in twenty-six beats. Like a manifesto, this book adds to the artist's convictions, weaving together contemporary art and commercial art, as well as art forms from other cultures and globalized liberalism. From his work emerges a great surge of generosity towards the communities he discovers around the world. Local craftsmen and artists are invited to participate in his projects, giving new colors to his production. Beyond this search for elsewhere and crossbreeding, Di Rosa invites the world to rediscover the charm of the little things in everyday life. The first edition is accompanied by a signed, one-of-a-kind original watercolor enhanced by stamps.
