Note: In 1962, Joan Rabascall (b. 1935 in Barcelona, lives and works in Paris) fled the censorship and heaviness of Franco's regime to settle in Paris, where he abandoned traditional media in favor of new ones, putting his creations at the service of the Revolution by becoming an image terrorist. His work uses and manipulates images from the mass media, creating an openly critical discourse on the mechanisms, messages and platitudes imposed by these media. Rabascall's work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the Centre Pompidou in 1994 and 1996, the Metropolitan Museum in Tokyo in 2000, the Neues Museum Wesserburg in Bremen in 2001, the Centre d'art Villa Tamaris in La Seyne-sur-Mer in 2003, and the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid in 2008. In 2005, the Franco-Japanese Institute in Tokyo hosted his My Collection photographic series (catalog published by Editions Jannink). In 2009, Barcelona's MACBA devoted a major retrospective to his work, and the city of Barcelona awarded him the Prix des Arts Plastiques. A text by Rabascall on the theme of the relationship between real landscape, pictorial landscape and televisual landscape, whose layout refers to the media imagery at the heart of the Spanish artist's work for over thirty years. The first edition is accompanied by ZEN TV, a silkscreen enhanced by collages and plant elements, an original work signed and unique to each copy.
