Note: Of Greek origin, living in Rome since 1956, Jannis Kounellis (1936-2017), a major artist on the contemporary scene, is one of the emblematic figures of Arte Povera, alongside Alighiero Boetti, Luciano Fabro, Giovanni Anselmo, Mario Merz and Pino Pascali. In his work, he developed the use of simple, industrial materials: iron, cotton, coal, wood, coffee, jute sacks and even live animals. His installations become real stagings that surround the spectator, making him an actor in the event.
