Peter Downsbrough - Lot 112

Editions Janninck Format: 125 x 210 mm Enclosed is a slipcase signed and stamped with two parallel lines by the artist, as well as an original work of art, folded and inserted in the book. Note: A major figure in contemporary art, Peter Downsbrough (b. 1940, New Brunswick, New Jersey) has been working since the early 1970s in the wake of Minimalism, at the crossroads of Conceptual and Concrete Art. His many artistic practices - sculpture, photography, public commissions, books, films, sound pieces applied in discreet interventions in urban space - are based on the notion of position and framing, and question the relationship between space and language. An artist of simplicity and bare essentials, he structures space by creating discreet yet clearly visible volumes using a pared-down plastic vocabulary of simple geometric figures, lines, words and painted surfaces. The combination of linguistic and geometric elements thus formalizes structured spaces inducing a multiplicity of readings. This work, which brings together three previously unpublished texts written in 1986 and designed by Peter Downsbrough, is a veritable artist's book. The first edition comes with a slipcase signed and stamped with two parallel lines by the artist, as well as an original work of art, folded and inserted in the book.
