Yann Toma - Lot 114
Yann Toma Part de jouissance 48 pages, paperback, dust jacket Circulation: 290 copies + current edition "L'art en écrit", 2007. Editions Janninck Format: 125 x 210 mm Includes a signed, enhanced poster. Note: University professor at the Université Paris I, Panthéon Sorbonne and researcher (CERAP - Centre d'Etudes et de Recherche en Arts Plastiques), Yann Toma is an unclassifiable artist. In the early 1990s, when he took over the site, archives and name of the former Ouest-Lumière electricity company (of which he proclaimed himself President for life), he appropriated a symbolic network, a factory infrastructure that became his research territory and the very subject of his activity. Yann Toma explores the themes of light, energy and networks, the means of industrial production, bureaucracy and the corporate world. Since 2009, he has been an artist-observer at the United Nations. In Part de jouissance, he writes about his group's strategy, and in particular everything to do with the issuance of profit-sharing shares. In this way, President Toma develops, with his characteristic clarity, all the questions one might have asked about Ouest-Lumière. Presidential Art is akin to that of iconoclastic artists: Duchamp, Picabia, Filliou, John Cage, Kaprow, Nam June Paik, Beuys, Ben or Spoerri. An unclassifiable blend of Dada, Surrealism, Fluxus and Situationism, he derides the pompous jargon of capitalism and believes with certainty that artistic redemption will come through the influence of Ouest-Lumière. In reality, he is his own movement. The first edition is accompanied by a signed poster. Folds
