Note: Sarkis, born in Istanbul in 1938, is of Armenian origin. He moved to Paris in 1964, where he was close to Figuration Narrative, before discovering Beuys and Conceptual Art. He then embarked on a rich career of exhibitions in galleries and museums, theatricalizing occupied spaces, regularly "reactivating" installations and inviting other artists to work with him. Sarkis's work, made up of paintings, collages, watercolors, sculptures, misappropriated objects and installations, also includes an important component: filmmaking. In synopsis, he describes the scripts for 40 films, made in Calder's studio in Saché or in his own studio in Villejuif. Most of them last between 1 and 6 minutes, and some have become an extension of his watercolours, an artistic discipline that never ceases to fascinate him. "Basically, it's the same thing: my films replace the watercolors...". Sarkis also discusses his relationship with music. The first edition is accompanied by a numbered silkscreen print, signed and enhanced with a fingerprint in watercolor.
