Markus Lüpertz - Lot 116
Markus Lüpertz God of Thieves 48 pages, paperback, dust jacket Numbered 169 from an edition of 290 "L'art en écrit" 2006 Editions Janninck Format: 125 x 210 mm Enclosed: Note: A powerful figure on the contemporary German art scene, Markus Lüpertz was born in Liberece (Czech Republic) in 1941. Having grown up in a Germany subject to essentially American influence, where purely Germanic values had disappeared from art, Lüpertz returned to painting, figuration and lyricism, drawing on the sources of national expressionism. Controversy has always accompanied his work, from the early 1970s onwards, especially with the Black-Red-Gold series. After setting up his own gallery, Großgörschen 35, in 1964, he was represented from 1968 onwards by the Michael Werner Gallery in Cologne. His works can be found in today's leading contemporary art museums. An extract from the German artist's workbook, a mixture of drawings, sketches, poetry and reflections on creation, accompanied by an original signed work (a print using two techniques - woodcut and etching) for the first edition.
