Scurti - Lot 119
Scurti Sept à sept 48 pages, paperback, dust jacket Circulation: 285 copies + current edition "L'art en écrit", 2005. Editions Janninck Format: 125 x 210 mm Enclosed is a unique signed piece, created from a varied selection of coasters collected by the author from various French and foreign cafés. Note: Franck Scurti (b. Lyon, 1965; lives and works in Paris) claims to have been inspired by Picabia, Raymond Hains, Marcel Broodthaers, Jacques Tati and Francis Ponge, who "taught him to look at objects, to analyze them, to lose them in themselves, then to re-evaluate them". His work, inspired by everyday reality and international current affairs, takes advantage of the forms produced by the world of consumerism and urban civilization. Disconcerting as much for its diversity (from doodles to customized vehicles, DIY objects and video, Scurti ignores virtually every medium used in art) as for its apparent lack of stylistic unity, his work is an undertaking to situate oneself (Patrick Javault), between reality and its representations, in relation to aesthetic, historical or economic issues, but also in relation to things and events. All these elements of the world determine the individual's daily life, while at the same time offering the possibility of imagining one's life as a work of art (if only, for example, by crossing the randomness inherited from Dada or Fluxus with the rules of productivity or the modernist grid): a liberating perspective of improvisation that does not ignore the various models that reference it and give it a cultural foundation. Reflections by Franck Scurti on his work and the art world today, through seven conversations. The first edition is accompanied by a unique signed piece, created from a varied selection of coasters collected by the author from various French and foreign cafés.
