Guernica / Ukraine - Lot 182

Guernica / Ukraine Justified copy N°8 Format : 29.5 x 29.5 cm. Pagination : 76 p. Laminated and hand-stamped cardboard covers. Accompanied by a serigraph signed in pencil, dated 24.02.2023 and numbered 8/75 by Jean Pierre Raynaud. Note: This book contrasts Pablo Picasso's Guernica (1937) with its contemporary counterpart created by Jean Pierre Raynaud in 2023, Untitled - Ukraine, the work he donated to Ukraine. This activist, artistic and historical book is richly illustrated and documented, and recounts the two committed artistic projects of Picasso and Raynaud. The book is divided into two parts. The first concerns Picasso and Guernica (period photographs of the bombing, reproductions of newspaper headlines, comments written by Picasso, photogravures of preparatory drawings, Guernica and photographs taken by Dora Maar). The second concerns Jean Pierre Raynaud and his work donated to Ukraine (photogravure of the work, photographs of preparatory work, writings by the artist). The introduction includes the preface to President Zelensky's speech at the Venice Biennale in April 2022. In conclusion, images of the inauguration ceremony.
