Rick Griffin (1944-1991) - Lot 4

Rick Griffin (1944-1991) Avalon Ballroom - July 4, 67 Concert poster with Quick Silver Messanger service, Phoenix Siegal Schwall (FD-69) Note: Poster produced for concerts at the Avalon Ballroom, a mecca for San Francisco's psychedelic scene. Rick Griffin, a major figure in Californian underground graphic design, developed a characteristic visual vocabulary here: organic lettering, interlocking shapes and hallucinatory iconography, perfectly in tune with the counter-cultural aesthetic of the summer of 1967 ("Summer of Love"). Reference FD-69 corresponds to the series published by the Family Dog collective, now particularly sought-after by collectors of psychedelic rock posters. 55 x 36.5 cm
