Michael ENGLISH (1941-2009) - Lot 43

Michael ENGLISH (1941-2009) Coke, 1970 Original vintage offset poster Copyright Motif edition The Shenval Press, Harlons, England Canvas Height: 89.5 cm Note: Original poster by Michael English, a major figure in British psychedelic graphic design, produced in the early 1970s. This composition hijacks the popular imagery of the famous Coca-Cola drink with humor and daring, transforming a capsule into a melting, almost hallucinatory vision, typical of the underground aesthetic of the time. Part pop culture, part protest spirit, this work reflects the artists' critical view of consumer society, while retaining a strong visual and decorative dimension. The effects of material and fluidity, combined with a limited but striking palette, reinforce its immediate graphic impact. Published by Motif and printed by Shenval Press, this canvas poster is a fine example of English graphic design from the 1970s, sought after for its originality and its direct link with pop and psychedelic visual culture.
