Bruno Chessens, Jean Louis Danis, "Baule Monkeys" - Lot 199

Bruno Chessens, Jean Louis Danis, "Baule Monkeys" Edition Mercadorfonds & Yale university press, 2016 Very good condition, slightly worn dust jacket Note: Baule Monkeys, by Bruno Chevessens and Jean-Louis Danis, published in 2016 by Mercatorfonds in collaboration with Yale University Press, is a reference work devoted to monkey sculptures in Baule art (Ivory Coast). Through a rigorous study and high-quality iconography, the authors analyze the singular place of these figures in the corpus of African art. These sculptures, both rare and intriguing, bear witness to a symbolic dimension that remains partly enigmatic, between animal representation and ritual function. In very good condition, this book is aimed at informed collectors and lovers of primitive arts, looking for solid, specialized documentation.
