FERNANDEL with Marguerite (partner and heroine of the film " - Lot 7
FERNANDEL with Marguerite (partner and heroine of the film "The Cow and the Prisoner") and a fish, 1959 2 photos, vintage silver prints Captioned (dated labels) and stamped on backs Dimensions: 13 x 18 cm each. Note: Fernandel (1903-1971), French actor and singer, is among the most popular figures of French cinema in the XXᵉ century. His career, marked by over a hundred films, is notably associated with comedies that have become classics and his unforgettable character of Don Camillo. These photographs taken in 1959 show him alongside "Marguerite", the cow who shared the screen with him in Henri Verneuil's film The Cow and the Prisoner that same year. Inspired by an episode from the Second World War, the film recounts the escape of a French prisoner who crosses Germany accompanied by a cow in order to go unnoticed. These images bear witness to the promotion and iconography associated with this film, one of the great popular successes of French cinema in the late 1950s.
