FRANCOIS TRUFFAUT, portrait of the director, 1960s. - Lot 12
FRANCOIS TRUFFAUT, portrait of the director, 1960s. Photo, vintage silver print Stamped and annotated on back Dimensions: 18 x 12.7 cm. Note: François Truffaut (1932-1984), French director, screenwriter and film critic, is one of the major figures of the Nouvelle Vague. A former critic with Cahiers du cinéma, he made his name in the late 1950s with Les Quatre Cents Coups (1959), a film emblematic of the revival of French cinema. In the 1960s, he produced a number of landmark works, including Tirez sur le pianiste (1960), Jules et Jim (1962) and La Peau douce (1964), which helped establish his personal style, blending autobiographical sensibility, reflections on love and a passion for cinema. This photograph, dating from the 1960s, presents a portrait of the director at a time when he was establishing himself as one of the most influential filmmakers of his generation. It is part of the press iconography devoted to the great figures of French auteur cinema.
