STEVE McQUEEN, portraits, 1960s 2 photos, vintage silver prints Stamped and annotated on back Dimensions: 20.3 x 14.7 cm & 25.7 x 20.3 cm. Note: Steve McQueen (1930-1980), an emblematic actor of American cinema in the 1960s and 1970s, established himself as one of the great figures of Hollywood, thanks to his sober, charismatic style, which earned him the nickname "King of Cool". His breakthrough came with the television series Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958-1961), and he quickly rose to international stardom with such cult films as The Great Escape (1963), Bullitt (1968) and The Thomas Crown Affair (1968). The portraits presented here, taken in the 1960s, reflect the period when McQueen reached the height of his popularity and embodied a new model of the male screen hero, marked by a minimalist attitude and a strong physical presence that were to have a lasting influence on the image of the Hollywood star.
