JACQUES TATI - AIR FRANCE, Mr Hulot crossing Orly airport wi - Lot 67
JACQUES TATI - AIR FRANCE, Mr Hulot crossing Orly airport with an Air France suitcase, 1950s Photo, vintage silver print Dull spine Dimensions: 19.8 x 18 cm Note : Photograph of Jacques Tati (1907-1982) in his famous character of Monsieur Hulot, crossing Orly airport with an Air France suitcase, dating from the 1950s. Created by Tati in Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot (1953), this clumsy, observant character became one of the most recognizable figures in French comic cinema. Through Hulot, Tati develops a poetic satire of modernity, leisure and everyday life in post-war society. The image evokes the visual and thematic universe of the filmmaker, often attentive to the places of modernity - airports, hotels, seaside resorts or urban spaces - which become privileged settings for his films. It is part of the iconography associated with one of the most emblematic figures of French cinema in the XXᵉ century.
